Masai Mara Safari
It’s difficult to find words to describe the safari experience. I wanted to update everyone with photos on my blog however one “oh no” I quickly discovered on the cruise ship is that Wi-Fi is extremely slow. I have now posted several photos from our safari, I hope you enjoy.
We stayed in a tent that admittedly was more glamping then camping but it still was a tent in the middle of the wilderness. There were no solid walls just screens around us and canvas coverings that were rolled down in the evenings on every wall except at the foot of our bed. The bed faced out to the park to an amazing view. Our last morning we saw a stunning sunrise that formed layers of colors and mist over the expanse of the horizon. We watched a giraffe nibble on the leaves of a tree and a few feet from it was a herd of cattle making their way through the fields. A family of baboons danced around playfully on a mound of earth and weeds.
The first night, though, was a challenge. In the middle of the night I heard scratching, crawling, running sounds on top of us and I swear that whatever the creature was, it was in the bed with us… To which I shouted “it’s in the bed!” And jumped on top of Eric. He tried to calm me down and said, “no, it’s just on the roof.”
Eventually I believed him. We finally went back to sleep to the background sounds of baboons, lions, buffalo, and wild dogs who prowl through the night.
I won’t write about the bugs…it’s camp…remember never keep lights on at night…
Jennifer, loved your comments about the safari. Will share with Char. All is well on our end. Unfortunately, we have both been slowed by colds, but we love Oceania so far.
Happily Reliving our safaris through your great writing and insights
Thanks, it’s such an amazing experience.
I love safari. which country are you in? Monkeys jumped on our tent all night– it made us laugh.
Hi,
